Cynthia Lowen, producer of the new film “Bully”, joins us. The documentary follows multiple students who are bullied in school. Due to some of the language in the film it received an R rating, but before it premiered the rating was changed to PG-13. Lowen hopes that this film will inspire bystander intervention, and help to end bullying. The film will be shown at Amherst Cinema from April 20th until April 26th.

I just saw the documentary BULLY. I think it was amazing to have cameras in the schools and on the school bus to verify the accuracy of this culture of cruelty. It is an important film for parents and children to see but I think it must be shown in school assemblies with followup discussions by professionals and educators who can discuss specific scenes and ask for comments from the audience: what they could have done, what could the school have done, what could the parents have done?
I would really appreciate an opportunity to have a conversation regarding an educational followup to have with students, after viewing the film. We have 15 years of experience in educational programs on bullying for students, teachers and parents. We are also award winning authors of children’s books on bullying.
