Several years ago, Saloma Furlong from Sunderland, left the Amish and wrote a book, “Why I Left the Amish,” and she was featured on an American Experience documentary, “The Amish.”
Saloma has now written a new book, “Bonnet Strings: An Amish Woman’s Ties to Two Worlds” and also is in the follow-up American Experience documentary called “The Amish: Shunned” which will air on Feb 4th on PBS. She will be doing a pre-screening on Feb. 2 at the Sunderland Public Library.
Cori Urban, a reporter from The Republican, has written about Saloma and a young Amish girl, Anna, who lived with Saloma and her husband after deciding to leave the Amish. Anna’s story is also featured in this follow-up documentary with a surprising end.
