It’s a story out of science fiction novel: researchers have discovered a super-massive black hole in a galaxy 55 million light years from earth – and they have the pictures to prove it! The international team of astronomers say this is the first visual evidence of the black hole in the center of the M-87 galaxy. And the image that made headlines across the world has a local tie. Dr. Gopal Narayanan, Ron Grosslein, and Aleks Popstefanija are part of a UMass Amherst Astronomy research team that helped capture the first black hole image. They joined Carolee McGrath to explain their role in the discovery and what it means for the field.
