Ahead of the 2020 Presidential election, Northampton resident and former Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force John Paradis published a column in the Daily Hampshire Gazette voicing his opinion about an election for the first time. He says it breaks a longstanding tradition of those who have served, or are serving in the military, publicly talking about who they’ll be voting for.

Connecting Point’s Ross Lippman spoke with Paradis, along with Director of Central Hampshire Veterans’ Services Steve Connor, and UMass Amherst History Professor and author Christian Appy to discuss the history of talking politics in the military, and why this election is especially divisive among soldiers and veterans.
