America’s Documentarian Ken Burns has been inspired by Greenwood School’s annual tradition of memorizing the Gettysburg Address. As this year marks the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s famous speech, Ken decided to imbed a film crew and share this story of triumph with a larger audience. His documentary— The Address—will premiere nationwide on PBS on April 15 and the worldwide premiere will be at Brattleboro Vermont’s Latchis Theater on April 2. Greenwood is also hosting a National Gettysburg Address Competition on April 2. Fifteen peer specialized schools across the country (including schools in California) are holding their own competitions and will be sending their winners to Greenwood School. All Gettysburg winners will face off in a national competition and we will crown a middle school and a high school National Champion.
High school winner Stephen Collins, middle school winner Kevin Harrell, and faculty member Phoebe Connolly talk about this.
