This past Spring Break, dozens of Springfield-area middle and high school students participated in STEM Week at Springfield Technical Community College. Students were introduced to S.T.E.M. (which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) curriculum through fun, educational activities presented by STCC faculty and guests who work in related fields.
STCC‘s S.T.E.M. Week is funded by a federal grant awarded to support Hispanic and low-income students, and a Title III grant, which is used to help ensure that English learners attain English language proficiency and meet state academic standards. The program is run by Dr. Felicia Griffin-Fennel who says, “The camp increases awareness about STEM and what it means for their lives.” Producer Alejandro Cameron brings us the story.
