With schools closed and students learning online, districts are doing their best to keep students connected, both academically and socially. Missing their routines, their friends, and school activities may make some student feel lonely. Over the next few weeks, Connecting Point will highlight how schools are handling this “new normal” of social distancing.   

In West Springfield, the Class of 2020 has made the best of a difficult year that not only included the pandemic but included the devastating loss of a classmate.   

Walking across the Big E Coliseum stage to receive their diploma is a tradition for generations of West Side students. Despite the obstacles that social distancing presents, school administrators worked hard to celebrate their seniors with a not-so-traditional spin on their graduation ceremony.  

As Carolee McGrath reports, the students learned to lean on each other as they faced these unprecedented challenges.
