Every Wednesday during the month of May Connecting Point will pay tribute to the men and women who served thier country during war time. On May 2nd host Carrie Saldo visited the American Legion/VFW food pantry in Lanesboro, Massachusetts, they have grown from serving 20 people to 270. More recently, they have distributed 12,000 pounds of food, and about 85 percent of those visiting the pantry are Veterans.

On May 9 Producer Tony Dunne will talk with Viet Nam Veteran John Arthur of Longmeadow about his experiences serving in the military overseas during the Vietnam War in the 1960’s.

On May 16, Jim Madigan will talk with Republican Exec. Editor and local history buff Wayne Phaneuf about the key roles some W. Mass. residents played in the Civil War.

May 23rd, producer Dave Fraser will conclude our Veteran’s series with a story about Marine Sergeant Joshua Bouchard of Granby, MA. Bouchard was on his second deployment when he lost his left leg and broke his back after his vehicle drove over a pressure plated IED in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on July 8th, 2009. On April 27th the non profit agency Homes for Our Troops began construction on a specially adapted home for Josh in Granby, MA.
