BNaumkeag bigecause my job has me out on the road a lot, I think I take for granted what a wonderful region we live in. I am reminded of this when I take friends to different parts of western mass that seem so “every day” for me yet when they see it they are amazed at the landscape the culture and the people. This month we are highlighting the southwestern corner of the state in Berkshire County, more commonly known as South County, as part of our “On The Road” Series. We recently taped as series of interviews at Naumkeag in Stockbridge, the former summer home of the Choate Family.

As a set up piece for this series videographer Mark Langevin and I set out to South County one morning to get some scenic images as well interview a few well known residents of that region. We started with Michelle Gillett a local writer in Stockbridge and she shared why she and her husband chose to move out of the big city and find a life style that they thought they would enjoy. Their family thought they were crazy but now it’s the family that is jealous of what Michelle and her husband have.

We talked with Matt Sawyer the Marketing Director at Ski Butternut in Great Barrington and Brian Alberg the Executive Chef at the Red Lion Inn, they both recognized the beauty of the region they call home and for Alberg, who left to do his culinary training and then returned, it is a region that he will never leave again.

I hope as you watch this series “On The Road in South County” Wednesday nights in January that it will remind you of the wonderful region we call home and weather you visit these places often or just occasionally, you won’t take it for granted that western New England is a special place to call home.

Thanks for watching.
