With Democrats in control of the House, Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern has been tapped to lead the powerful US House Rules Committee. Earlier this month, the House voted to adopt new rules. The new rule will change the way the Committee approaches how bills are debated and modernize Congress. Mt. Holyoke College Assistant Professor of Politics Ali Aslam and Smith College Professor of Government Donald Baumer shed light on the significance of McGovern’s new role and how the rule changes will affect Congress.
