December 22—just three days before Christmas—marks a somber anniversary for the Holyoke Police Department and the family of officer John DiNapoli. On that day in 1999, DiNapoli was gunned down in his car while responding to a call he volunteered to take in Holyoke’s Churchill neighborhood. Connecting Point’s Ray Hershel recently sat down with DiNapoli’s son Andrew and daughter Jobeth to talk about their father, the ultimate sacrifice he made in the line of duty, and how he’s being remembered 20 years after his death.
