Thirty-five years ago this month, Springfield police officers Alain Beauregard and Michael Schiavina were shot and killed during a routine traffic stop. Schiavina died that night — November 12, 1985; Beauregard died three days later on November 13.
Every year, the Project Blue Light Ceremony, a solemn memorial service honoring the city’s fallen officers, is held outside Springfield Police headquarters. But this year’s event looked different due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Ray Hershel spoke with Doris Beauregard Shecrallah, the widow of fallen officer Alain Beauregard, about the sacrifice of these fallen officers and how they’re being remembered this year.
