Five years ago, Emily Rooney, a journalist at our sister station WGBH, had Patriots Day off and planned on meeting a friend in Back Bay. After arriving near the Boston Marathon course, she heard what sounded like a muffled roar and knew something wasn’t right. When she headed towards the sound, she recognized a familiar face from New England broadcasting—television anchor Maria Stephanos. Rooney and Stephanos recently met up to reflect on the Boston Marathon bombing and the aftermath that followed.
