Laura Chagnon, from West Springfield, became the victim of a senseless assault in Boston in 1989. The result? She was in a 5-week coma only to awake quadriplegic, legally blind with a head injury. The next 4 years were spent in physical rehab facilities and she returned to her parents’ home. Laure turned to poetry as her outlet and more than 5,000 poems later, she continues to craft poems with her caregivers. She has published her own book “Never Touched a Pen” and she is a shining example of someone overcoming adversity.
