September 1st is Primary Election Day in Massachusetts. While there are many races happening on the state and local level, here in western Mass all eyes are on one contest longtime incumbent Congressman Richard Neal is facing a challenge from Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse.

The First Congressional District race, viewed by many as bellwether for the progressive movement in the Democratic party, has at times been contentious and garnered national attention. Other races are in play — including a hotly contested race between incumbent Mass. Senator Ed Markey and U.S. Representative Joe Kennedy III.

With so much political drama in the air, what was the mood among the electorate at the polls today? Carolee McGrath has more.
