The June 1, 2011 tornado that ripped through western Mass decimated the building at 99 Wendover Road—once the home of Cathedral High School—in Springfield’s East Forest Park neighborhood, forcing the school to relocate. Cathedral High School operated out of Wilbraham for several years following the incident, before merging with Holyoke Catholic High to form Pope Francis High School and moving to Chicopee in 2015. During this time, construction for the new Pope Francis High School building began on the site that Cathedral High School called home for decades. Connecting Point’s Brian Sullivan showed up for the first week of school and got a look at the school’s new state-of-the-art facilities.
