Aliz Koletas on set with members of a GCC Senior Writing Group

On December 18th the Connecting Point crew packed up our cameras, lights and microphones and headed to Greenfield Community College and set up in their studio. For an entire day we hosted members of the Franklin County community and discussed some of the issues that are prevalent to the most rural county in the Commonwealth. With a population of just over 70,000 and it’s rural setting it is an area that can often go over looked.

Connecting Point host Aliz Koletas talked with Linda Dunlavy from the Franklin County Regional Council of Governments regarding Broadband and passenger rail service to that area. She also talked with Ed Hayes, Assistant Deputy Superintendent for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department to learn how they use grant money to assist with the transition from jail to community.
Host Jim Madigan talked with Greenfield Community College Pres. Robert Pura about the state of that educational institution. GCC is the only institution of public higher education in Franklin County with an annual enrollment of over 2,500 credit students. and carries a rich tradition of access, excellence and affordability.

He also talked with long time media personality Chris Collins to get the pulse of the region. That particular interview will kick off our Franklin County series and you can see that on air Thursday Jan. 2nd at 7:30 here on Connecting Point as well as online anytime at wgby.org/connectingpoint. Look for more stories from Franklin County all this month on Connecting Point and as always if you have issues that you feel are important to where you live please contact us through our web site at wgby.org/connectingpoint.
