In an average Connecting Point season we see 100’s of guests coming into our studio in downtown Springfield to discuss issues or share their stories with our viewers. Although that is the most efficient way for us to produce our program it is often advantageous for us to get out into the communities and talk and see, first hand, the issues and accomplishments that people face every day. Our viewership consists of a large area spanning the 4 counties of western Mass as well as sections of northern Connecticut and Southern Vermont. Often it is just not practical for someone to make the trip to Springfield so we began an “On The Road” Series where we literally pack up our studio and take it to a region and ask people to stop bye and have a conversation with us. To date we have been to Greenfield Community College, Hancock Shaker Village, The Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Naumkeag in Stockbridge, Chester Rail Museum and most recently Mass Moca in North Adams.
Our stories from Mass Moca will air on Wednesday June 3rd, Connecting Point Contributor Carolee McGrath will be talking with North Adams Mayor Richard J. Alcombright. North Adams has a population of almost 14,000 people according to the 2010 census, making it the least populous city in the state. Ruth Blodgett, Senior Vice President, Planning and Development
Berkshire Health Systems will discuss that organizations recent bail out of the North Adams Regional Hospital and what that facility means to the people of that region. We will also have feature stories on the Clark Art Museum which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this month and we’ll look at the role community radio plays in northern Berkshire County.
