We are on the road again this month, visiting one of my favorite places in Western New England: the Northern Berkshires. All month long we’ll be bringing you stories from this little corner of Massachusetts, nestled up near the Vermont and New York borders. Like much of New England, the history of the communities there have mirrored those throughout America – while  farming and agriculture were the main endeavors for early settlers, that eventually gave way to the rise of the industrial revolution and a period of prosperity, followed by the decline of industry and a period of economic uncertainty.

Williamstown

Williamstown, MA is one of the towns that make up the Northern Berkshires.

These days, however, the Northern Berkshires are on an upswing; given new life by the creative economy which has sprung up around the rich arts and culture inherent in the region, and tourism based upon the natural wonders that are so abundant there. If you haven’t visited there you should… as you should all of the other places we take you to when we go “On the Road” on Connecting Point: from Franklin County to Hampshire County to the Hilltowns and everywhere in between. Each has something wonderful and different to offer, and all are just a tankful of gas away. When you do go, be sure to tell ’em WGBY sent you!
