Increasing numbers of health care facilities, including nursing homes and burn units, are bringing in therapy dogs to offer residents and patients comfort and companionship. Westfield-based K-9’s for Kids has trained therapy dogs in health care settings for more than twenty years.  

But recently, police departments are finding therapy or comfort dogs to be helpful with their community policing efforts. In September, the Great Barrington Police Department brought on K-9 officer Beko, the first therapy dog in Berkshire County.
