Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 15 to 19, according to the CDC.  The most common method of suicide in the United States is by firearm. UMass Professor John Zeber’s research focuses on how pediatricians help promote gun safety. During routine office visits, pediatricians can offer parents gun safety tips and even gun locks as part of a universal prevention strategy. Zeber, a mental health services researcher and Associate Professor of Health Promotion and Policy, sat down with Carolee McGrath to discuss his research.
