The Valley is home to some of the longest running farmers’ markets in the state. Both the Amherst Farmers’ Market and the Greenfield Farmers’ Market are over 40 years old. Our farmers’ markets are an important source of commerce and community building for both farmers and residents. More and more residents are able to buy at markets, since many markets accept SNAP (food stamps) and some markets are even matching SNAP purchases. Connecting Point Contributor Carolee McGrath talks with Devon Whitney-Deal, CISA Local Hero Coordinator and manager of the Greenfield Farmers’ Market, and Maureen Dempsey of Intervale Farm in Westhampton to learn more.
