Ed Johnetta Miller, Fiber Artist: My parents had already had my sister, who is four years older than I am. And for some reason, they just knew I was going to be a boy.

And they were going to be naming me after one of their favorite uncles, Edward John. But of course, I appeared, okay?

And my grandmother, Ruby Johnson, said, “You will not name this child Edward John, that is ridiculous.”

So she put together, she said, “We’ll keep the ‘Ed,’ we’ll keep the ‘John,’ but we will add ‘etta’ to the ending of it.”

Give it that little feminine twist. Thank you. Thank you, Ruby Johnson for that.
