Mayor Nicole LaChapelle is pushing to establish an Easthampton Community Relations Commission in the wake of hateful behavior at the high school. Before May LaChapelle’s election, a student at the high school held up a Confederate flag and yelled “white power.” Other instances of hateful behavior occurred at the school, include the use of racial slurs. Carrie Saldo spoke with Mayor LaChapelle about these incidents and how the commission could help prevent more incidents in the future.
