As of February 19, 2020, coronavirus has now infected more than 75,000 people worldwide. Most cases are in China, where the virus originated. CNN reports the death toll is approaching 2,000 people, with the majority of deaths also in China. There are currently twenty-nine cases in the United States. Fourteen of those cases originated on the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship.
Amid concerns about coronavirus, the flu seasons is still underway in the US. According to Dr. Sarah Haessler, the flu is a bigger concern for people in western Massachusetts. Dr. Haessler, an epidemiologist and infectious disease specialist at Baystate Heath, sat down with Carolee McGrath to explain more about coronavirus and the flu.
