There are times in our lives that we will never forget: moments that changed our world, shaped who we are, and after they happened, things were never the same again. One of the biggest changes to the western New England landscape came in the middle of the last century with the creation of the Interstate Highway system, with the construction of Massachusetts’ Interstate 91 taking place during the mid-1960s and early 1970s.

If you’re zipping down Interstate 91 today, it might be hard to visualize what the state was like without it. Producer Dave Fraser looks at the history of the Interstate and how its construction altered the physical & economic landscape of western Mass in Events That Rocked the Region.
