Holiday Depression

With the holidays upon us, many people are so busy shopping, wrapping, and baking that there’s not much time to think. But for others the stress of the holidays can be difficult to bear, especially for those who are mourning the loss of a loved one. Carolee McGrath sat down with Dr. Stuart Anfang, the chief of Adult Psychiatry at Baystate Medical Center, to learn more on how to cope with depression and anxiety that can sometimes accompany the joys of the season.

Political Polling

Professor Tim Vercellotti of the Western New England University polling Institute discusses what happened with the polling in the 2016 Presidential Election and the many challenges pollsters face in these times of cell phones and social media.

Friends of the Homeless

Bill Miller, Executive Director of the Friends of the Homeless shelter in downtown Springfield, talks with Carolee McGrath about the services they offer and the great need for those less fortunate, especially in the winter months and around the holidays.

Fire Safety

With strings upon strings of lights plugged into every available outlet—at least at some houses—it might look pretty, but all of these decorations can cause potential dangers. Carolee McGrath sat down with veteran firefighter Willie Spears, a Fire Inspector and educator for the Springfield Fire Department, about fire safety during the holidays. He also gave us a lifesaving reminder about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.
