Gone But Not Forgotten: Riverside Amusement Park

In tonight’s Gone But Not Forgotten story, we remember Riverside Amusement Park. It began as a picnic grove in the late 1800’s before being bought by the Carroll Family in the late 30’s and blossoming into New England’s largest Amusement park. Riverside was considered a family park and still has fond memories for many in the region as a place for fun, relaxation and, in many cases, summer employment. Connecting Point Producer Dave Fraser talks with local historian David Checchi of Agawam to learn the history of the Park and to reminisce about a by gone era.

Franklin County Opioid Treatment Facility

For the last few years, the growing opioid crisis has prompted calls for a treatment facility in Franklin County. This May, a new treatment center will open under the direction of Dr. Ruth Potee, a family physician and addiction specialist. Carolee McGrath spoke with Dr. Potee, and Marisa Hebble, the former director of the Franklin County Opioid Task Force to learn more and to bring us up to date on the epidemic that’s affecting cities and suburbs statewide.

Jackie Robinson at Springfield College

On August 16, 1962, not even a month after getting inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, legendary baseball player Jackie Robinson was the keynote speaker for an event at Springfield College. Baseball writer and Springfield College Professor Marty Dobrow sat down with Jim Madigan to discuss a unique and little-known piece of memorabilia that resulted from Robinson’s visit to the college.
