Gone But Not Forgotten: Local Ski Areas
Jeremy Davis is the Founder of the New England Lost Ski Areas Project (NELSAP), an online web site that preserves the history of local ski areas that are no longer operating. There are 62 ski areas in western mass that are no longer in operation and our crew visits a few of them including the former Berkshire Snow Basin in Cummington that closed in 1985, and the Mt Tom Ski Area in Holyoke that closed in 1998.

American Graduate: Coach Gary Mullins
Gary Mullins has been coaching the girls’ softball team at Turners Falls High School since 1979. Prior to his arrival the program was labeled a perennial loser but he has turned that program around into a state softball contender. Connecting Point Contributor Carolee McGrath talked with Mullins and members of his team to find out more about the secret of his success.
Hitchcock Center for the Environment
The Hitchcock Center for the Environment was founded in 1962 by Ethel Dubois (1906–1987), a retired guidance counselor. With a handful of dedicated volunteers, she provided summer camp and nature programs for low-income children, primarily from Holyoke and Springfield. Today, the Center remains true to its mission: to foster greater awareness and understanding of the environment and develop environmentally literate citizens. Recently Julie Johnson, Exec. Dir. of the Hitchcock Center for the Environment in Amherst discussed the new environmental center they are building.
