Camp Care

Camp Care offers therapeutic riding services year round in a newly completed indoor arena for kids and adults with physical disabilities. The concept of Camp Care originated through a strong desire to serve the children in need at Crossroads Physical Therapy, LLC. A large number of children treated at Crossroads have neuromusculoskeletal dysfunctions. The extent of therapy these children need is often long-term, complicated, and costly. As a result, most families struggle with insurance companies and other funding sources to be able to afford treatment and equipment. A horse’s gait – which is similar to human walking patterns – provides neuromuscular and sensory input through movement for the rider.

Springfield Museums’ Rare Find

Stored on a shelf for over 100 hundred years, a rare anthropological treasure was recently discovered in the Springfield Science Museum’s permanent collections. Originally cataloged as an “Aleutian hat,” the artifact had been preserved in museum collections for over a century before being identified last month as a war helmet from the Tlingit people of Alaska. Beautifully carved and with much of the original paint still visible, the helmet is one of a relatively small number in existence worldwide. Dave Stier, Director of the Springfield Science Museum, and Dr. Ellen Savulis, Curator of Anthropology, Springfield Science Museum explain more about this exciting discovery.

Academy of Music: 1940s Scandal

A box of letters and documents unearthed from a desk at Northampton’s Academy of Music revealed a mysterious story of scandal, power & politics that played out at the Academy in the early 1940s.  Amazed at what the documents unleashed, the Academy’s Executive Director Debra J’Anthony ultimately realized she had a play on her hands and proposed the project to UMass theater professor Harley Erdman. WGBY Producer Marla Zippay & Videographer Marc Rhinehart set out to learn more about the documents and how they’ll become a play, during a recent conversation with the two of them.
