Life With Monte: The Big E
This year’s Big E attracted over 1.3 million people during the 17 day run. The attendance figure is the fourth highest in the history of the event. Among those visiting the fair this year was Connecting Point Contributor Monte Belmonte who made his FIRST EVER visit this year. He talked with Big E President Gene Cassidy as well as others who have helped make this Fair a new England tradition for 99 years.

Vet2Vet
Holyoke Community College, in collaboration with the Springfield Vet Center, the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs, and the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, is launching a series of free classes this fall specifically for veterans. Called “Vet2Vet,” the 10 FREE single-session classes are designed to support, inform, educate and facilitate networking of veterans for personal and professional growth. As the name suggests, the courses will be taught by veterans of the U.S. military and are only open to veterans, with the exception of one for families. Connecting Points Carolee McGrath sat down with a Vet 2 Vet instructor and student to learn more.
Naumkeag
Bequeathed in its entirety to the Trustees of Reservations in 1958, Naumkeag is a National Historic Landmark that provides a special link to Berkshires history. This architectural masterpiece is referred to as a 44-room “cottage” and served as a summer retreat for three generations of the Choate family from New York City. Recently the entire grounds underwent a three year multi-million dollar renovation and producer Dave Fraser visited Naumkeag this summer and shares this story.
