Chris Herren
Chris Herren is a former NBA Basketball player who struggled with substance abuse for much of his career. Drug-free and alcohol-free since August 1, 2008, he recently sat down with Connecting Point contributor Carolee McGrath to talk about how he has refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else. He attends meetings daily to support his substance free lifestyle and often speaks before groups trying to overcome addiction to share his experiences and road to sobriety.

Founded in memory of Rick Thorpe, who died in the September 11th attack, Rick’s Place has provided support for children and families of lost loved ones. Since 2007 the organization has been dedicated to helping grieving children through remembering lost loved ones.

In order to help pay for their daughters’ college educations, Maureen and Mark Weiner knew they had to be creative. They turned to what they know best: donuts. Years later Moe’s Donuts has become a staple at local farmer’s markets year round. Connecting Point producer Dave Fraser and intern TJ Hannigan caught up with Maureen and Mark at the Forest Park Farmer’s Market in order to see them in action.
