Letters from Sandy Hook
December 14th marks the one year anniversary of the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut where 26 people lost their lives in a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. In the wake of the tragedy, the town was flooded with thousands of letters of condolence from people around the world. This inspired Newtown resident and writer Suzanne Davenport to ask the residents of the town for their own letters, which she has compiled into a book called “Letters from Sandy Hook-Newtown to the World,” as a way for the world at large to better understand this community and what it has been through. Davenport is joined in our studio by former Newtown resident Jeff Belanger to talk about the community of Newtown and Sandy Hook.
Dr. Bruce Waslick on Asperger’s Syndrome
Dr. Bruce Waslick from the Psychiatry Department at Baystate Medical Center talks about Asperger’s Syndrome, especially as it’s related to the Newtown shooting since Adam Lanza was attributed to be diagnosed with that. But what was the difference between Lanza and anybody else who’s been diagnosed with Asperger’s that hasn’t gone on a mass murder spree? What help is out there for those with diagnosed with these mental health characteristics?

Making It Here: Ooma Tesoro’s Marinara
Inspired by making marinara with his grandmother as a child, Michael Tesoro started his own pasta sauce business out of a small kitchen in his home in Windsor, Massaachusetts. But what you’ll find in that jar on the supermarket shelf is more than just marinara – it’s a grandmother’s love and a grandson’s passion.
