As we segue from spring to summer and wind down yet another season of Connecting Point, I inevitably take a look back on the people and places whose stories I’ve told over the past 9 months, and it makes me think about why we do what we do with our lives; the careers we have and why we’ve chosen them.
Growing up, I wanted to be Eddie Van Halen, Bruce Lee, or George Lucas depending on the day that I was asked. So it’s safe to say that I had a lot of interests as a child – music, art, history, writing, photography… and as an adult, I was lucky enough to find a career which combines all of those diverse interests and more: visual storytelling. As a Television Producer, I get to meet fascinating people and visit amazing places, and share their stories with the world at large. But it’s far more than a career; it’s a passion that began when I was young and has stayed with me my whole life.

There’s an oft-repeated saying: do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life. Now, there might be the odd exception to that statement, but I can tell you from personal experience, it’s absolutely true. I know this because as a producer here at WGBY, my job is to tell the stories of other people’s interests, jobs, and passions, and believe me – Western New England is FULL of people who are passionate about what they do, and who are eager to share that passion with others. People come here to learn at one of the many amazing schools that we are lucky enough to call our own, or to work the land in the natural beauty that surrounds us. They come here for a fresh start, or they come here for an opportunity. They come for many reasons, but they all share one thing: they love what they do. That’s an awful lot of people who’ve never worked a day in their lives!
And while we most certainly love what we do here at WGBY, I can assure you that we do indeed work very hard to chronicle these stories for you, and will continue to do so. Have a great summer, and we’ll see you again in the fall!
