It’s been over a century since Slavery was abolished in the United States by President Abraham Lincoln near the end of his term of presidency. Although the horrific beatings and lynching that slaves faced was over, there were still lost family and loved ones that suffered and hadn’t been laid to rest. Ashes to Ashes is a homegoing celebration by Dr. Shirley Jackson Whitaker to acknowledge those who’ve been murdered by the Klan without being able to rest in peace. On April 30th, Whitaker plans to change that with a mass burial service for the 3,000 documented lynchings in America’s past.
