Residents in Amherst will be voting on a proposed bylaw during the April 26, 2017 town meeting. The proposal would declare Amherst a sanctuary community, strengthening language from a previous resolution. The term sanctuary city has become somewhat of a controversy of late, as President Trump has vowed to cut federal funding from sanctuary communities.
