Since last summer, the town of Greenfield, MA has been discussing how to address homelessness. About twenty people started camping out on the town common in June. In August, the Mayor and Board of Health stepped in and prohibited camping on the town common. Some of the people in the camp entered homeless shelters, while others remained living on the streets. Last month’s sudden deaths of Kathleen Grady and Clayton “Aaron” Wheeler, who were homeless, has the community once again talking about addressing homelessness in the town. For perspective on this matter Carrie Saldo spoke with Elizabeth Bienz of Service Net, a resource agency serving the homeless, and Greenfield City Councilor Karen “Rudy” Renaud.
