Montague Plains
Located on a large sand delta, the Montague Plains was formed more than 10,000 years ago when melt water streams from the retreating glaciers emptied into Glacial Lake Hitchcock, a large lake that covered much of what is now Montague, MA and the Connecticut River Valley. Today, the Plains are home to many rare plants and animals and are maintained by Massachusetts Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. Producer Dave Fraser met up with Brian Hawthorne, a Habitat Planning Coordinator, to learn about this unique and important part of our region.
