Estimates show there are more than 50 million caregivers in the United States looking after an aging parent or grandparent. And while adult children want to be certain that their loved one is getting to doctor appointments, is well fed, and has what they need at home, the care-giver can often be vulnerable – ignoring signs of their own physical and emotional needs. Connecting Point’s Carolee McGrath sat down with Craig Johnsen, the executive director of Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing in Springfield and two members of his staff, Vivian Gladden-Jones, the assisted living program director and Cate Avey, the health services director to talk about a recent conference they had with a focus on making sure the caregiver is cared for.
