As Connecting Point begins its sixth season, you’ll undoubtedly notice some changes: we have a new executive producer (me), a fresh look and sound, and a fantastic new video-centric website, where you can find updated content anytime, anywhere.

What remains the same – and will continue to be so – are the great local stories that we tell. Stories of the community: the people, places, and ideas that matter most to western New England.

We kick-off October with a special series – “Grown Locally: From Farm to Table.” I suppose that’s how you could describe what we do at Connecting Point as well. We bring you local, fresh content that informs, educates, entertains, and inspires.

Gov. Baker is just one of the many guests you’ll see in season six of Connecting Point

This season we have old favorites returning: we take a look at people who are passionate about what they do in our “Making It Here” segment, Monte Belmonte gives us his unique outlook on the world in “Life With Monte”, Jeff Belanger explores the mysterious in “New England Legends,” Phil Korman takes a look at local agriculture, correspondent Carolee McGrath highlights the achievements of local students in her “American Graduate” features, and Jim Madigan explores the local political landscape in his weekly “The State We’re In” reports.

We’ll also introduce you to some new recurring segments as respected columnist Ron Chimelis gives his thoughts about happenings in the Valley and beyond, and the award-winning photographers of the Springfield Republican show us their view on life in western New England “Through the Lens.”

We will discuss some of the pressing issues in the region, such as the controversial pipeline proposal in Berkshire and Franklin Counties, the growing opioid addiction crisis, and the Springfield casino and viaduct projects, among many others.

I invite you to join us as we continue to follow these stories and many others throughout the season, and if there’s a story you want us to tell, please let us know. We’re your public television station, and we tell your stories. I hope you’ll tune in or go online and let Connecting Point be your source for the local stories that matter most to Western New England.
